The Two Types Of Satanism
(pdf)

There are basically two types of Satanism: (i) the ‘modern American’ type manufactured and propagated by Howard Stanton Levey – better known under his aliases of Anton LaVey and Anton Szandor LaVey – and (ii) the ‘traditional Satanism’ as manifest in the Occult philosophy and the praxis of the Order of Nine Angles (O9A, ONA) as developed and expounded by the pseudonymous Anton Long.

A Glossary of Order of Nine Angles Terms

Version 5.03
130 yfayen

The ONA employs a variety of specialist esoteric terms, such a nexion, presencing, acausal, Tree of Wyrd, and so on.

It also needs to be understood that the ONA uses some now generally used exoteric terms – such as psyche, and archetype – in a particular and precise esoteric way, and thus such terms should not be considered as being identical to those used by others.

O9A Primary Texts

In terms of scholarship and knowledge, a primary text is an original document created contemporaneous with, for example, the event or theory being studied and thus has valuable information about the topic. Primary sources generally enable a person to appreciate such an event or theory.

Secondary sources generally contain the opinion or conclusions or generalizations of those who may have read a few – not all – of the relevant primary texts but which sources often summarize the opinion or conclusions or generalizations of others.

In terms of the O9A (Order of Nine Angles) primary texts include the manuscript Naos {1), the Satanic Letters of Stephen Brown {2}, The Deofel Quartet {3} – all written by Anton Long – and the manuscript Diary Of An Internal Adept {4}. All the texts were written by those with a decades-long practical experience of O9A theory and praxis, and before the medium of the Internet became used as a source of information. Another important text is The Last Writings of Anton Long {5} which includes two short essays summing up his life-long occult quest.

O9A primary texts also include the Seofonfeald Paeth trilogy {6}, written by students of the Occult who for many years studied with Anton Long, thus revealing as many of the included texts do many aspects of O9A aural tradition, such as the historical origins of the septenary system; the relation of the seven-fold way to Hellenic hermeticism; the historical and esoteric context of Insight Rôles; Renaissance parallels to the Tree Of Wyrd and The Star Game; the relation between empathy and the numinous; the metaphysics of masculous and muliebral and the acausal; the O9A use of the term καλὸς-κἀγαθός; archaic spelling in O9A esoteric tradition; non-English names and terms in O9A tradition; the O9A Art Of Shrenching; the Somnium Scipionis of Cicero and the septenary system; sorcery in Virgil’s Aeneid; Alchemy and the O9A’s Sinisterly-Numinous tradition; Arabic influences such as Kitab Al-Alfak, and the Ruhaniyyat. And so on and so on.

Thus, to fully understand and appreciate the O9A – beyond the opinion or conclusions or generalizations or the allegations of others – a study of such primary texts is necessary.

Nihilism And The O9A

The author of a previous item we have mentioned {1} has – or so it seems – “connected some more of the metaphysical dots” between the Order of Nine Angles and nihilism and which nihilism thus takes the O9A far beyond the “neo-nazism” that it is commonly but mistakenly said by the Occult illiterati and by the Media to espouse.

In an article titled Virtual Reality and Terrorism the author quotes from an O9A text published in Naos {2} decades ago which states that
                   “For a long time the nature of the Left Hand Path has been misunderstood. The traditional definition as magick use for personal/destructive/negative purposes is meaningless because it assumes a framework of moral opposites, which does not, in reality, exist in relation to magickal energies. All evolution of consciousness is a magickal act – an expansion of the acausal into realm of the causal. From the ‘traditional’, moral/ Nazarene point of view all such evolution, of necessity, becomes evil. It is unfortunate that, for a long time, this simple fact has been obscured by silly systems like Qabala with its notions of a Dark Side of the Tree. No dark side exists, because what actually exists is dark of itself because it presences non-Being.”

As the author of Virtual Reality and Terrorism notes,
                   “It is all dark, because the acausal is just […] a term to denote absolute evil and every act of presencing it in the causal realm of necessity, becomes evil.”

Yet even if nihilism is accepted to mean “rejection of prevailing religious beliefs, moral principles, and laws, together with a practical hostility toward accepted beliefs and/or established institutions,” then both philosophically and practically the leaderless O9A movement goes beyond the type of nihilism manifest for example in O9A insight roles, in presencing the acausal through sinister deeds, through heretical Occult rites and ceremonies, and through the O9A principle of the authority of individual judgment.

It does so because, as explained elsewhere {3} the raison d’être of the O9A is evident in
                  “individuals undertaking an often decades-long hermetic anados (ἄνοδος) by which they might discover Lapis Philosophicus and thus acquire wisdom. A practical anados manifest in the O9A Seven Fold Way,”

and in the fact that
                  “what the Media focus upon and misinterpret – such as alleged culling, insight roles, satanism, alleged neo-nazism, alleged disruption of society, and Occult ceremonial rituals such as those in the O9A Black Book of Satan – are related to only one temporary part of that Seven Fold Way. Which part is that relevant only to an External Adept (stage three of seven) and which part lasts from between a year to around eighteen months after which the individual moves on to other learning experiences.”

Which other learning experiences – beyond the stage of External Adept – involve “numinous experiences” such as the three to six month long rite of Internal Adept where the individual lives alone in the wilderness.

The O9A Adept therefore as a result of their anados presences some-thing – a Reality – which prevailing religious beliefs, moral principles, laws, causal abstractions and forms hide or obscure or distort.

Furthermore, the O9A movement has always maintained that the knowing of this Reality is acquired wordlessly, and thus is not only an acausal-knowing but also the result of a pathei mathos – a learning from personal experience, ordeals, and challenges both Occult and practical. {4}

Thus it is perhaps more apt to describe the O9A as representing a post-modernist nihilism.

Afsana, Yusra, And The Green Damask Room
(pdf)

For decades, the esotericism of the Order of Nine Angles (ONA, O9A) – its unique esoteric tradition – has been either neglected or scorned by both modern occultists and by academics who have written about Western esotericism.

In order to facilitate research into the O9A we provide here some comments about two hitherto ‘secret’ aspects of O9A esoteric tradition: the Rite of Afsana, and the location associated with Yusra, both of which are mentioned in certain questions that those publicly declaring themselves knowledgeable about the O9A – usually via the medium of the Internet – were (from around 2008 on) sometimes asked to answer in order to verify their claim to knowledge.

Alchemical And Hermetic Antecedents Of The Seven Fold Way Of The O9A
(pdf, 27 Mb)

The texts included in this pdf compilation provide an overview of the alchemical tradition of the O9A and how that tradition relates to the Seven Fold Way. It should thus enable both those beginning their own Occult quest according to an O9A praxis, and those interested in O9A esoteric philosophy, to better appreciate not only how the O9A differs from other modern Occult groups but also how the O9A has maintained links to, and manifests some of the esoteric knowledge of, more ancient Occult traditions. Ancient Occult traditions, and esoteric knowledge, entirely absent from the literature about and produced by all other modern Occult groups, all of which groups (and the persons associated with them) have bought into, and reproduced, the distorted ‘qabalistic’ tradition of the likes of Alphonse Louis Constant, MacGregor Mathers and Crowley, and/or who (like Howard Stanton Levey and Aquino and Crowley) simply continued and aided the de-evolutionary masculous, patriarchal, ethos. In contrast to that patriarchal ethos – which has dominated the world, East and West, for millennia – the O9A tradition is of ἀρρενόθηλυς: of balancing the masculous with the muliebral through pathei-mathos both Occult and exoteric.

Breaking The Silence Down

The novel Breaking The Silence Down extends and amplifies the esoteric matters dealt with in The Deofel Quartet, and the esoteric insight it deals with is appropriate to an aspirant Internal Adept.

Unlike the MSS in The Deofel Quartet, the magickal and “Satanic” aspects, themes and nature of this work are not overt, nor implicit nor obvious, and thus – exoterically – it does not appear to be a work of Sinister, or even of Occult, fiction.

However, the MS can – like the works of the Quartet – be read without trying to unravel its esoteric meaning. Like those other works, it might through its reading promote a degree of self-insight and supra-personal understanding within the reader. Unlike the works of the Quartet (which in the main are concerned on the polarity of male/female vis-à-vis personal development/understanding) this present work centres, for the most part, around the alternative Sapphic view. A view relevant to the Order of Nine Angles, past and present, given that the O9A has and always has had Sapphic nexions.

An understanding of this view is necessary for a complete integration of all divergent aspects of the individual psyche – an integration which the Rite of Internal Adept creates.

Classifying O9A Texts
(pdf)

Since the early 1980s, beginning with the Black Book of Satan, the Order of Nine Angles (O9A, ONA) has published and circulated thousands of texts; so many in fact that one academic wrote:

“the ONA has produced more material on both the practical and theoretical aspects of magic, as well as more ideological texts on Satanism and the Left-Hand Path in general, than larger groups such as the Church of Satan and the Temple of Set has produced in combination [which] makes the ONA an important player in the theoretical discussion of what the Left-Hand Path and Satanism is and should be according to the practitioners.” {1}

Given (i) the sheer volume of O9A texts, (ii) the growing interest in the O9A both academically and otherwise, and (iii) the profusion of recent (post-2011) texts dealing with aspects of O9A esotericism such as links to Hellenic hermeticism and why the O9A represents a ‘sinister-numinous’ and modern pagan tradition, it seems apposite to place now familiar O9A texts into their historical and esoteric context.

The O9A Deofel Quartet

The Deofel Quartet present much of the diverse aural traditions of the Order of Nine Angles as Anton Long received them: as stories about people, their interactions; their ‘satanic’ or esoteric views and beliefs; and about certain events that involved those people. In The Deofel Quartet he simply reworked the factual material – as writers of fiction are wont to do – in order to make an interesting story, in the process obscuring the identities of those involved and sometimes their place of residence or work; added some entertaining details (as in the ‘astral battles’ of a kind now familiar – decades later – from the Harry Potter stories) and concatenated certain events in order to provide ‘action’ in a limited time-frame.

Thus, the fictional stories not only compliment other O9A material but provide a ‘different way into’ the complex O9A mythos; a way that many will find more interesting (and certainly more entertaining) than thousands of pages of sometimes polemical and sometimes ponderous O9A factual texts, and a way that especially places the O9A’s satanism into perspective, Aeonically and otherwise.

The Quartet was written by Anton Long with the stories originally read out from handwritten manuscripts at Temple/nexion meetings of the Order of Nine Angles (O9A) in the decades of the 1970s and 1980s. These meetings were never large – sometimes only a few people, occasionally a dozen or less – and were always held in intimate and candle-lit surroundings.

Following the expansion of the O9A in the late 1980s resulting from O9A articles being published in occult zines such as Nox, the original handwritten manuscripts (most with handwritten corrections or alterations) were, in the early 1990s typed out on manual typewriters by various people.

The novel Breaking The Silence Down extends and amplifies the esoteric matters dealt with in The Deofel Quartet, and the esoteric insight it deals with is appropriate to an aspirant Internal Adept. It is often considered to make the Deofel Quartet into an Esoteric Quintet.

Emanations of Urania
(1976 edition, pdf)

We republish here the complete – unexpurgated – 1976 version of the typewritten text Emanations of Urania containing as it does section III titled Concerning Culture, Race and the Future. This section – omitted in the “1974 restored” version republished some years ago by Mr Stirling {1} – extols National Socialism, Hitler and is openly neo-nazi. The other major difference is that the “1974” version gives the author as David Myatt while the author of the 1976 edition is given as “Anton Long” of Order of Nine Angles fame.

Keen observers will notice two things about the 1976 text. Firstly, that the heretical Section III was typed on one of the two typewriters also used in the 1974 version; and secondly that the term Magian has been handwritten over a redacted term. According to O9A aural tradition the redacted term was “Jewish” so that for instance the end of 3.113 would have read “such an evolution implies the gradual triumph of the Aryan soul over the Jewish soul” instead of the redacted “such an evolution implies the gradual triumph of the Aryan soul over the Magian soul.”

Of the differing versions, Myatt himself wrote in his revised 2012 version of his 1988 text The Star Game: History and Theory, that

{quote}
“Following my release from prison in the Spring of 1976, I (in hindsight, foolishly) added another section, numbered 3.0 – 3.1152131 (with the previous section three – Concerning Life and Causal Death – renamed and renumbered section four) with this new third section being copied from jottings in notebooks I had kept in prison and which jottings I typed out using a different manual typewriter from the one previously used. And this was foolish for two reasons; first because the addition was unnecessary and spoilt the simplicity of the original theory; second, because the new section dealt with and added hubriatic abstractions such as ‘the Aryan racial soul’ and ‘the distortion of the magian’, topics which I would foolishly return to some years later when I wrote the neo-nazi pamphlet Vindex, Destiny of The West.

Photocopies of this 1976 typewritten text were posted that Spring to a few friends, one of whom was to – in the Summer of 1976 after I had entered the seclusion of the noviciate of a Christian monastery – photocopy it, repackage it with a new title page (which included his pseudonym), and circulate it clandestinely among some of the members of the occult group I made some mention of in Part Two of Ethos of Extremism.” {2}

Appreciating καλὸς κἀγαθός and the O9A
(pdf)

°°°°°°°

Extract:

As the authors of the text Some Questions And Answers About The Order of Nine Angles 2019 write, the Occult movement that is the Order Of Nine Angles (O9A) is

“a means whereby the current Aeon, distorted by the Magian, can be undermined and replaced by a new Aeonic civilization with a new ethos and with a new mythos which presences that ethos. That new ethos is an essentially pagan one evolved from the Greco-Roman and Western notion of καλὸς κἀγαθός, of τὸ καλόν (the beautiful) and τὸ ἀγαθὸν (the honourable) manifest as these are in the O9A Code Of Kindred Honour and in the balancing (ἀρρενόθηλυς) of the masculous and the muliebral via the enantiodromia that is the Seven Fold Way and presenced as that balance is in the Grade Rituals of Internal Adept and of The Abyss.”

Where the ancient Greek term καλὸς-κἀγαθός in the context of the O9A means a certain type of individual; a type of individual well-described in the 122 Year of Fayen text Concerning Culling as Art – an extract from which is given below – and which individual has a particular personal character revealed in and by their behaviour and by the deeds they have done in the real world.

Revealing, and to an extent creating, this type of personal character is one of the main aims of the O9A Seven Fold Way (7FW) with its physical challenges, its difficult and testing Insight Roles, and its Grade Rituals, especially the Grade Rituals of Internal Adept and of The Abyss. All of which were designed to test and to challenge the initiate as well as provide opportunities for both exoteric and esoteric pathei-mathos – πάθει μάθος – just as the Labyrinthos Mythologicus of the O9A was designed to challenge and test aspirant initiates.

The Sinister Feminine And Homo Hubris

As apprehended by those who have ventured along the Seven Fold Way of the Order of Nine Angles (O9A, ONA) to at least the stage of Internal Adept, and by those who because of their character feel the ‘sinisterly-numinous’ aesthetic, one of the fundamental problems of the modern Western Left Hand Path in general and of modern ‘Satanism’ in particular is that of Homo Hubris.
